Ethical and Accurate Coding: A Case-Based Guide for Neurosurgeons

10 – 11:30 am

Proper coding is essential not only for reimbursement but also for ethical medical practice, clear documentation and compliance. In this interactive, case-based session, AANS coding faculty will walk participants through real-world neurosurgical scenarios to highlight critical coding principles. Attendees will gain practical tools, learn how to apply modifiers correctly and understand how documentation impacts coding outcomes. This session is especially valuable for those preparing for oral boards or looking to close persistent gaps in coding proficiency.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Apply accurate and ethical coding practices in common neurosurgical cases.
  2. Use modifiers appropriately to reflect clinical complexity and compliance.
  3. Recognize how clear and complete documentation directly influences proper coding and reimbursement.

Neurotrauma for the General Neurosurgeon: A Case-Based Clinic

1 – 2:30 pm

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) remains a cornerstone of neurosurgical practice, yet evolving technologies and protocols require ongoing education—even for experienced general neurosurgeons. This interactive, case-based clinic focuses on practical, real-world management of neurotrauma scenarios commonly encountered in general practice. Through audience participation and expert-led discussion, the session will cover critical topics such as penetrating TBI, multimodality monitoring, vascular injury and emerging therapies. Designed to be highly practical and clinically relevant, this session will equip general neurosurgeons with updated tools for confident, evidence-informed decision making.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Apply current best practices in the management of traumatic brain injury.
  2. Gain case-based insights into the treatment of penetrating TBI, the use of multimodality monitoring and identification of vascular injuries.
